An IGN article….
Camelot might best known for its Mario Golf and Mario Tennis games across the Nintendo 64, GameCube, and Game Boy platforms, but there’s still a following for its traditional, fantasy role-playing game designs. Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age were two fantastic RPG titles on the Game Boy Advance, but we haven’t heard much out of that series since the end of the second chapter back in 2003.
We recently had the opportunity to chat with the Takahashi brothers, head of Camelot Software Planning, about the team’s upcoming Wii Love Golf title, and we couldn’t resist poking the two about the next game in the Golden Sun series.
“Honestly, just like your readers saying that they want to see a new Golden Sun, a new tennis game, a new Shining Force, well, everyone in Camelot feels the same way — we really want to get these games out for you guys,” they said. “Just like how we said our staff has been hoping to create new RPGs, we are definitely in the planning stages of doing something interesting. We hope that you will be looking forward to our future game. We ourselves are looking forward to the next Camelot RPG as well, just like you.”
A cryptic answer, to be sure, but it’s obvious that Camelot hasn’t forgotten about its RPG roots. Hopefully we’ll soon see the third chapter of Golden Sun hit a Nintendo platform soon.

So which console do you want the next Golden Sun game to come out on (if they make one)? More than likely it will be either the Nintendo DS, or Wii, but which one will be right for the next installment in the series? Personally, I think that the Wii would be great with the motion control, but I don’t think that It would work to well going around the over world all the time with just motion control. On the DS, I’d like it on there because obviously it’s portable, and you can take it wherever you want, and I think that the controls would lend themselves perfectly to the DS. I personally think the DS would be a better choice, but either way, you still get a new Golden Sun game out of the deal.

The Wii internet browser is handy isn’t it? And lots of flash sites, and gaming sites have been making there sites optimized for just Wii use. Well, it took a little while, but I finally got the blog completely Wii optimized, and now it will be fully functional with the Wii, and will be more “compatible” with the opera browser. I just wanted to post this because there’s tons of people that like the Wii browser, and use it a lot, and I wanted to make sure that you guys knew that you could just hop on, and get on the site on you Wii, and not have to worry about compatibility issues. Alright, I’m going to bed, and I’ll start updating tomorrow! Goodnight!

Robin, or rather, Isaac, has been confirmed to be an assist trophy in the highly anticipated Smash Bros. Brawl, coming out on March 9, 2008 in North America. We may be disappointed that Isaac or Felix were not playable characters, but at least we get to see Isaac in full glory 3D! Hurray!

A more recent new rumor hoaxing Golden Sun 3 was found July 11, 2007 on Joystiq, concerning their E3 Special Coverage. According to the article by John Bardinelli, a user identified as “gobo_4227″ stated that Nintendo held a small pre-E3 gathering to test a small handful of Wii and Nintendo DS games not scheduled to be shown at E3. Among these games were Golden Sun: The Solar Soothsayer; it was also said that all of these games were in very early development. It was stated that “The story seems to continue where previous Golden Sun games left off, putting you in control of Felix is a pseudo-3D world” and will implement similar controls as to Animal Crossing DS.
gobo_4227 managed to take shots of it from his cell phone, which can be seen on the right and left side. Some issues had been found with these screens which throw some doubt upon the authenicity. For one thing, the game is already in English. Both the first and second game were announced some time before translation to English, and released in Japan some time before the US, so it is strange that we would see an English version before Japanese. Also, the © symbol is missing. In the previous games, the © was always next to the ‘Nintendo/CAMELOT (years)’ line, and that is not the case with these screens, which is strange, since there is no reason to take away the copyright symbol. On another note, the bottom screen’s picture is simply reused official art of Golden Sun: The Lost Age. It seems unlikely Camelot would take a picture they drew years ago and not make new content instead.
After the site dsfanboy.com wrote this blog post decrying the pictures as part of a hoax, the user, now known as Opium, has admitted to perpetrating this hoax and said as much in an interview with Vooks.Net, claiming he created the images and story in an attempt to stir up conversation among Golden Sun forums and hopefullycause Camelot to notice the continued popularity of their games, and be prompted to make a new GS game.

I hope that this is true, and I’ll make sure to bring you guys some more information. And a big thanks to James Latty for bringing this article to my attention.
The two-part Game Boy Advance role-playing epic is not dead yet, as developers Camelot have re-affirmed their commitment to the Golden Sun series. Interviewed by Game Informer, Camelot’s founders – brothers Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi – have spoken their mind on the status of the series, last seen back in 2003. Their response:
Hiroyuki Takahashi: “First of all, I love that game and I love the world of Golden Sun. We think we have to make another one. We have to do it! Not just that we have to do it, but we want to do it. Nintendo has asked us to please make it. But at the same time we haven’t gotten around to making it. We’re not really sure why. (laughs)”
Shugo Takahashi: “As Camelot, we think of ourselves as being a company that makes RPGs. In an RPG you role-play as another character. In the sports games, you’re role playing as yourself. I want to let the fans know that in the center of our way of thinking the games that we’re making now are close to RPGs. The looks and the concepts might be totally different but the essence of the game contains the RPG. One of the reasons that we haven’t made Golden Sun is because there are so many fans of the game and we don’t want to do something half-assed. We want to give it the time it deserves.”
After all this faffing around making golf titles, we really hope that Camelot get down to making the Golden Sun title the series’ fans have been waiting so patiently for.

It’s a big dissapointment to post this, but here it is:
Most people would probably imagine I created the fake get people’s hopes up or hurt them when they realised it wasn’t real, that’s not the case. I created it to help generate some controversy about Golden Sun and ultimately more discussion about the series. People’s interest seemed to peak up when my fake started circulating, I saw many posts all over the internet of people who thought it was true rejoicing and telling people how much they loved the games. That sort of talk can only be good for the series. Perhaps Camelot will take a bit more notice and come out of their hole and work on a true sequel. – Opium, hoax creator
